Houston METRO and GlobeSherpa have teamed up to make mobile ticketing a reality for the city’s transit riders. The new METRO Q Mobile Ticketing app, powered by GlobeSherpa, allows users to buy, store and validate passes for METRO’s bus and METRORail lines straight from a smartphone.

Simply put, this app gives customers a more convenient way to pay for transit. Houston residents and visitors won’t have to worry about having exact change for the ticket kiosk as Q Mobile Ticketing allows customers to purchase tickets using PayPal or a debit or credit card. If traveling with kids or a big group, it is possible to purchase tickets for everyone on the same device. If users aren’t sure how to get from point A to point B, they can use the built-in Trip Planner tool to plan a route ahead of time.

The widespread use of smartphones makes the transition to mobile ticketing intuitive. Mobile payments are the next logical step for transit agencies – the ability to book, pay, and obtain real-time information about transit services, while reducing operational costs.

GlobeSherpa-powered apps have been downloaded by over 700,000 people and sold over four million mobile tickets. In January 2016 alone, GlobeSherpa-powered apps sold almost 900,000 mobile tickets to users. Houston joins some of the country’s largest metro areas, including Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco, to use GlobeSherpa’s award-winning platform.
